I am interested in getting more involved in Steampunk culture. I work with Swiss mechanical watch movements, and I can see lots of applications in everything from watches to kinetic jewelry and even advanced clothing designs. I would love to work with someone who could help guide me, and with the internet location seems to be no restriction. Anyone interested?

Cool post Richard! I couldn't agree more with the idea that you need to find work you're passionate about. In a strange twist of fate I somehow managed to stumble onto programming during my marketing internship and it has made all the difference in the world. I didn't know a thing about computers at the time but the instant I discovered programming I knew it was what I had to do - it didn't matter if I was about to graduate with a degree in marketing. I also think passion can evolve, so it's key listen to it and not get too comfortable or complacent. That's probably why I've enjoyed consulting - it provides new challenges to recharge the old batteries once in a while. It looks to me like you are indeed following your instincts and they’re leading you down a pretty exciting path. Thanks for putting up these posts and letting us follow you on the journey. I'm quietly cheering you on with every Steampunk Holmes post and can't wait to see the final product.

Thanks, Chad. I'm really happy with how things are progressing. It's nice to focus only on doing the best work we can rather than having to abide by some arbitrary deadline. It would be nice if all projects were like that.

Well, I hope to eventually deploy the app/book on Android platforms but its not a priority. To be perfectly frank, the Android platform is fragmented with too many devices having different specs. I can see, however, deploying it to the NOOK Color which is a nice Android platform and perhaps to an Amazon.com tablet if they come out with one.

Perseverance may be half the battle! I just started reading your blog and admire the openness as you document your journey. At Demibooks, we were also initially inspired by the disruptive potential of the iPad and titles such as Alice and the Elements. We've focused on our Composer platform, but like yourself have gone through the baptism by fire that is producing quality book apps. Until there are viable business models, it's tough to see what worked in 2010 continuing to do so - and hence your platform plays. Hang in there and do check us out!

The other thing to research is what demographic is most likely to buy these things? What books has that demographic already read and what will they want to read next? My hunch is that you're on the mark with the first question but not the latter. These classics will be fun for you but how big is the audience of people who want to rebuy and reread? Maybe seek out some lesser known titles or commission a new one and use your expertise to turn them into new classics....
