Personally, I think it must be very hard to choose the best designs considering there are over 50,000 iPhone applications to choose from. How does one person or even a group of people review 50,000 applications? Having been involved in these kids of awards before (as a Judge) it's mostly luck of the draw. For every recognized design there are probably 100 equally good or better designs that the judges never knew about.
