It is at once a happy and sad day for me. I resigned from my position at Burton Group for a new position as Vice President of Developer Relations at Curl, Inc. My last day at Burton Group is February 1st; my first day at Curl is February 18th.I loved working at Burton Group - its a wonderful company. One of my primary coverage areas as a Sr. Analyst had been RIA technologies including Ajax, Java applets, Adobe Flex, Curl, Silverlight, Nexaweb, OpenLaszlo, Backbase and many other solutions. I feel I know the RIA space better than most and I believe that Curl, which I posted about here, is the best RIA solution available today. Other solutions from Adobe, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, Nexaweb and the open source community (mostly Ajax frameworks) all have strengths, but Curl is, IMO, the easiest to learn, the most productive, and technically the most capable of all the RIA platforms.
Curl is not as well known as other solutions and so I'm joining the Curl team based on my faith that a great technology can succeed if it has a great community. That's where I hope to make a difference. I plan to engage software developers, the men and women in the IT trenches, in the hope of creating a vibrant community that advocates the use of Curl as a richer internet application technology. If I can show developers what Curl can do, the Curl community will grow naturally.
Leaving Burton Group - one of the best companies I have ever worked for - is a leap of faith. Faith in the intelligence and pragmatism of the development community. Faith that a superior technology can win. It is a leap of faith with which I leave my Ivory Tower. Faith in you. Faith in myself.
By the way my departure will leave an opening in Application Platform Strategies (APS) service at Burton Group, something that only happens once or twice a year. If you are interested in becoming an analyst contact Chris Haddad the Vice President and Service Director of APS.
