I've been learning about Curl, a Rich Internet Application (RIA) technology that is, in my opinion, a real competitor to more predominate RIA solutions such as Adobe Flex and Ajax.Curl is not new. In fact Curl has been around for close to a decade but it hasn't had much of a presence in the United States. Curl has been most successful in Japan. In May of 2007, Curl launched in the United States and it has slowly, but surely, been gaining ground in the enterprise.
In many respects, Curl is more powerful than other RIA solutions and I believe that its unique language is actually easier to learn than Ajax (i.e. JavaScript,HTML, CSS, DOM) or Flex (i.e. ActionScript and MXML).
Curl was created by computer scientists a MIT including Michael Dertouzos, David Kranz, and Steve Ward. With a heritage like that, Curl is a platform that should be taken seriously by organizations interested in enterprise RIA solutions.
